Is your website informative and attractive to visitors?
|
|
|
|
|
Internet presence can be divided into
these 5 levels:
- Being present. A static website with corporate
information.
- Continuous updates. Information is updated on a daily or
weekly basis.
- Electronically updated information. Information is updated
automatically from corporate information systems.
- Web shop. Possibility to order products or services
online.
- Customer relationship management and individualization.
|
|
|
Success factors that apply on all levels:
- Security: Make the visitor feel save and comfortable by
using design and links.
- Access: You can close your office during weekends and
lunch hours, but the website with all its aspects is
anticipated being open 24 hours, 7 days a week, all year.
This is what customers expect.
- Capacity: Plan for good capacity in server and
connections, especially during campaigns. Capacity is for
hire.
- Easy-to-use: Eye-friendly design. Easy to navigate.
- Information. Inform about all aspects of the transactions
you involve your visitors in. Give customers alternative
options.

The 7 deadly sins of website design:
- "In construction". If the website is not ready,
don't show it. Hide it.
- "Give us your credit card number over this unsecured
line". If you can't secure the transfer, don't ask for
sensitive information.
- "Please give us all your personal information before
you order." Let the customer place the order, and
collect more data if he/she is happy with your product and
comes back.
- Unprintable text. When trying to print a website, half the
page is going outside the margin and is not printed.
- Latest technique. If you think shockwave and flash is
adding necessary features to your website, give the visitors
an alternative supported by widely used browsers. And make
the text printable.
- "Send us an email, we will be back to you in a
month". Respond quickly. Respond immediately.
- "We put our website live without testing".
Don't. Put together a test team and have them test all
aspects of your web site.
